An incredible meal! The food was delicious and made to perfection. If you don't have a lot of experience with Nigerian food their menu gives great detail, including a QR code you can scan to see pictures and read further about the dishes. When making our reservation, we mentioned that my partner had an allergy to nuts and they brought out a whole index showing which items contained different allergens. That was amazing.
THE best place restaurant in north London. I’ve been here so many times and each time introduced someone new to the place because it’s just that special.
The team are so warm, so welcoming, the service is super friendly and the food is just, chefs kiss!!
The owners are also usually present and will go out of their way to say hi and appreciate your custom. It’s legit my favourite restaurant for so many reasons and if you haven’t been you’re missing out on quite an experience.
The prices are so reasonable considering the quality and portions and the Nigerian Tapas style means that you’re encouraged to try a bit of everything. Go, sample it all and now they deliver!
Will be trying their brunch soon!
Update: brunch was great, they have a few packages to choose from but we felt the standard for £35 was good value for money. The only downside is prawns are excluded so we got them as extra :)
I really liked the small plates idea. This meant that we were able to sample most of the menu. The food was tasty and well presented. Some of the dishes were a bit on the sweeter side, like the Sinasir (rice pancakes). The moi moi was probably my favorite though.
Another nice thing is that the menu isn't meat-heavy, more than half is vegetarian or vegan. There are also many gluten free options. Service was very friendly and really quick. I would definitely recommend booking since it's popular and not that big.
Three of us had a wonderful tapas meal at Chuku's recently. Even though two of us eat meat we opted for the whole range of veggie tapas along with one prawn dish (they recommend about 3 dishes per person). It was just wonderful. A fantastic way to sample different flavours of Nigeria. My personal favourite was the cassava chips, but all the dishes offered a different taste and texture sensation. Even though some dishes included scotch bonnet it was not blow your head off heat but a gentle flavour enhancing warmth. We enjoyed their cocktails too. A word too for the young serving staff too - we felt very welcome and their friendly service added to a really relaxed evening. I highly recommend Chuku's.
From the moment we walked in, we felt like family, and the relaxed ‘chop, chat, chill’ vibe really set the scene. The vibe is all pastel-laid-back Sunday brunch vibe that makes you feel like home.
The menu is extensive, with some dishes and drinks I’d never seen before, offering a wide range to choose from. We opted for the weekend brunch special, which included a variety of tapas and a drinks package, making it a great value. The flavors were out of this world! From the sweet pea nutty caramel Kuli Kuli chicken to the cassava fries topped with fiery red pepper, every bite was a delight.
A favourite was the suya meatballs with an addictive savory sauce.
The extensive vegan options were a pleasant surprise, catering to a variety of dietary preferences.
But the star of the show for me? The lamb amayase – rich, decadent, with a pleasant offally taste that left us craving more. My only small niggle is that attracting the attention of a server to get more drinks was sometimes difficult. Highly recommend.
What an experience! The food was mind blowing and the attention was great!
I’d recommend:
-Jollof quinoa
-The rice pancake IS TO DIE FOR
-The caramel wings were absolutely incredible.
-For dessert, the cheesecake was glorious.
The lamb was good but super spicy. We did not love the okras.
It’s not cheap, but it’s worth it. We spent 160£ for 12 tapas.
Attention was great!
I went here for the June Supper Club, it was a birthday treat so I can't comment on value for money / cost.
We sat on one long table and they didn't allow you to sit next to the person/people you came with to encourage us to speak with new people. There was a rule that we couldn't speak about work which I enjoyed, and we were all asked to write down one thing that made us smile that week on little slips of paper, we put them into a tin where they were mixed up and each person read one aloud.
The hosts did ask about any dietary requirements as it was a set sharing menu, and they just brought out all the different dishes in quick succession. We shared one tapas dish between roughly 4 people, and there was definitely plenty of food to go round.
When each dish was placed on the table, they didn't name the dishes, I think it was assumed that I/we would be familiar with the dishes. When I asked about each dish, I was told the names and my questions were answered, but I was mocked by one of the hosts, at times for not knowing the dishes.
Part of the point in going to a Supper Club is to learn more about food/ cultures you don't know and to support independent chefs / businesses. I don't remember the names of each dish as there were so many, but when I asked again, I was told to look up their menu online. There were no actual menus on the table.
The drinks were at an additional cost and I think the prices were reasonable. The desserts were innovative and tasty.
We travelled a very long way to the restaurant and due to the distance and my personal experience at the Supper Club, I wouldn't return, but I still recommend you give it a try as the food was nice.
We absolutely loved our anniversary dinner at Chuku's. Our first visit but definitely not our last. Our personal favourites were the meat balls and dumplings. We also enjoyed the signature cocktails.
